Heat recovery ventilation

Heat recovery venitaltion works via a heat recovery ventilation unit which is usually installed in the loft of a property. Unlike an extractor fan which simply removes moist air and replaces it with the air from outside, heat recovery ventilation draws heat from the extracted air and passes it onto the air which is being drawn in.

The extracted air and the air drawn in flow through different pipe pipes preventing any cross contamination. This is what makes heat recovery ventilation an excellent solution for condensation problems because it allows the removal of moist air without cooling the property.

How does heat recovery ventilation work?

During heat recovery ventilation, the retention of heat during the transfer of humid air into new clean and dry air is made possible by our unique heat exchange unit.

Our design is innovative yet so simple and incredibly efficient. Warm air from the room is drawn into the fan housing and passes over a series of heat exchange tubes. At the same time, clean dry air is drawn into the fan cartridge and passes through the core of the same tubes where heat is transferred to the incoming air.

Benefits of using heat recovery ventilation

Put simply, a heat recovery system is beneficial as it improves air quality without letting heat escape. When traditional sources of ventilation in a property such as air bricks or vents are insufficient this can lead to issues such as condensation and black mould. The effects of these issues can range from unsightly stains and unpleasant smells to timber decay, rot and the aggravation of health problems such as asthma.

Not only will heat recovery ventilation help prevent condensation problems, it will also recover the heat normally wasted by traditional fans or simply opening the window. In fact up to 75% of the heat that would normally be lost by traditional ventilation methods can be rescued by our units. This makes heat recovery ventilation systems a fantastic way to make your home more energy efficient, making it more environmentally friendly and potentially more cost effective when it comes to energy bills.

The maintenance of a heat recovery ventilation system is also minimal as all you really need to do is change the filters within the system once or twice a year.

Finally, despite being powerful fans the heat recovery ventilation units provided by Peter Cox are small enough to be fitted in even the cosiest kitchen or bathroom, making our heat recovery ventilation system one of the most effective condensation solutions available.

In summary, the key benefits of heat recovery ventilation are:

  • Recovers up to 75% of the heat from the air being replaced
  • ‘Humidistat’ controlled to work as effectively and efficiently as possible
  • 2 sizes to suit every property and room - 100mm or 150mm diameter units
  • Units for wall thicknesses up to 600mm. Even the thickest of walls are suitable
  • Easy Maintenance – central ‘Heat Recovery Unit’ can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner or simply wiped with a damp cloth
  • “Whisper quiet”. Silent operation at less than 22 decibels meaning you will not be disturbed
  • Totally recyclable – no waste
